Batik is a textile technique originating in Indonesia. It involves applying wax to fabric to create a pattern which resists the dye in the coloring process. The tools and methods of batik are very adaptable to painting with encaustic. This 2-day workshop will explore traditional batik on fabric with the intention of incorporating the fabrics into encaustic painting (featuring waxes by Jacquard). We will also explore how these traditional techniques can be adapted to be used in a contemporary way as participants will be encouraged to explore their own interests in mark-making and pattern. This class is intended for those with working experience of encaustic at an intermediate or advanced level. Featuring such Jacquard products as Dye-Na-Flow, Damar Resin, Pearl Ex Powdered Pigments, Encaustic Medium, Indigo, Waxes and more!
