Leather Wristbands Blue

By Carmen Flores Tanis

The hardest part of these colorful and easy-to-make wristbands will be deciding which one to wear first.  But the solution to that dilemma is easy - just stack them up and wear several at once!
Each of these wristbands uses a different technique to showcase the unique properties of Lumiere 3D Dimensional Metallic Paints and Piñata Alcohol Inks. You’ll find yourself saying “I never knew paint could do that!”

All of the colors used in these projects are suggestions. Please choose colors according to your own taste and artistic mood.

Materials:

  • Jacquard Lumiere 3D Dimensional Metallic Paints and Adhesive - Turquoise, Blue, Lime, Copper
  • Jacquard Piñata Alcohol Inks - Sapphire Blue
  • 9mm plastic tip
  • 1" leather wristband blank (available at leather supply shops)
  • Snaps & setter (if your leather wristband blank doesn’t have one attached already)
  • Acrylic sealer (I used Liquitex Gloss Varnish)
  • Foam stamp
  • Paintbrushes / water cup / paper towels

BASECOAT

1) Brush both sides of the leather wristband with Lumiere 3D Blue. Set aside for a few minutes to dry.

2)  Brush front and sides of wristband with one coat of Lumiere 3D Turquoise. Let dry.

3)  Brush front and sides of wristband with one coat of Lumiere 3D Lime. Let dry. Continue to layer on colors until you are happy with the effect.

STAMPING

4)  Put a few drops of Piñata Sapphire Blue on a glass or ceramic dish. Rotate the plate so that the ink spreads out. Add ink to your rubber stamp by pressing it into the blue ink, and then stamp it onto the leather wristband. You’ll get a nice faded effect as you continue to stamp without re-inking. The Piñata inks evaporate quickly, so add a little more ink to the plate as you work. Continue until you are happy with the look.

DETAILING

5)  With a 9mm tip on the spout of the Lumiere 3D Copper, outline the stamped images with the copper paint. Set aside and let dry for 1-2 hours.

FINISHING

6) Seal the wristband, front and back, with a coat of the acrylic sealer.

7)  Add a snap closure if necessary.

8)  Wear on your wrist and enjoy!
