Scouring non-new nylon clothes for acid dyeing
  • Hi,

I've read plenty about the benefits of scouring nylon with Synthrapol before an acid dye, but is this necessary for clothes that have already been warn & washed several times? Is the scouring purely to remove remnant oils etc. from the manufacturing side of things? (And therefore only applicable to new, unworn, unwashed fabrics).

I have some white nylon underwear that I want to dye, but don't have easy or cheap access to Synthrapol, so if they need to be scoured (despite not being new), any alternative suggestions for what to use would be most welcome...
  • If they have already been washed several times, you will be just fine. I wouldn't worry about it.
